Peterside Cautions Okonkwo on Super Eagles Selection

Idah Peterside, a former goalkeeper, has issued a warning to Arthur Okonkwo regarding his aspirations to secure a position in Nigeria's national football team, the Super Eagles. Okonkwo, currently a 24-year-old goalkeeper for Wrexham, has recently switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria, having previously represented England at youth levels without making a senior appearance.

Peterside highlighted that club form is not a definitive indicator of success at the international level, particularly in African football, where conditions differ significantly from European club football. He noted that many players struggle to replicate their club performances on the international stage.

Despite this caution, Peterside acknowledged the quality of Nigeria's current goalkeeping options, including Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, and Francis Uzoho, suggesting that competition for places remains strong. Okonkwo has made 100 appearances for Wrexham, helping the club secure two promotions, and is set to feature for Nigeria in upcoming friendly matches against Zimbabwe, Poland, and Portugal.
