PETROAN Directs Meter Inspections Following NMDPRA Warning

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has mandated its members to conduct nationwide checks on their dispensing meters after the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) issued a warning regarding alleged under-dispensing of petroleum products. PETROAN's National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, announced this directive during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme.

The decision followed an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council held on Tuesday, which lasted until 10 pm. Gillis-Harry noted that some members had already begun inspections, as prolonged use of dispensing equipment could lead to inaccuracies.

He shared a personal experience of financial loss due to a faulty meter. He reassured motorists of PETROAN's commitment to accurate dispensing and advised them to monitor meter readings and request receipts.

PETROAN collaborates with the Weights and Measures Division and NMDPRA to ensure the accuracy of dispensing meters. The NMDPRA warned that operators found under-dispensing could face sanctions, including license withdrawal.
