Dangote Refinery Boosts Petrol Supply Amid Imports

Nigerian oil marketers are importing substantial volumes of petrol even as the Dangote Refinery increases domestic supply. Recent vessel movement data shows several petrol cargoes arriving at ports in Lagos, Warri, and Calabar.

The tanker LAUSU arrived on September 4 carrying 31,000 metric tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for AA Rano, berthing at Ibafon on September 5. HAFNIA COUGAR arrived in Lagos with 20,000 tonnes of PMS for Vitol/Emadeb, scheduled to berth on September 9.

MATRIX PRIDE is expected on September 11 with another 20,000 tonnes of PMS. The Dangote Refinery, which reached full capacity earlier in 2026, has emerged as a key domestic supplier.

The vessel BORA arrived in Warri on September 6 with 15,000 tonnes of PMS from the refinery, while ASHABI brought 10,000 tonnes of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). The refinery has opened direct sales of petrol, allowing qualified marketers to purchase products directly, which is anticipated to enhance competition in Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector.
