Nigeria to Receive 154M Litres of Imported Petrol This Week

Nigeria is preparing to receive approximately 154.2 million litres (115,000 metric tonnes) of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) this week, with five vessels scheduled to dock at Tin Can Island Port in Lagos and Calabar Port, according to the Nigerian Ports Authority's shipping schedule. This influx of imported petrol occurs despite a rise in domestic refining capacity, suggesting that petroleum marketers are still relying on imports.

The situation follows the Dangote Petroleum Refinery's announcement of resuming petrol sales in naira, as some fuel importers were reportedly withholding stocks in anticipation of price increases. An anonymous official indicated that this decision was made to prevent fuel scarcity and further price hikes.

The shipping schedule reveals that four vessels will discharge petrol at the KLT Phase 3A terminal in Tin Can Island, while one vessel will berth at the North West Petroleum & Gas terminal in Calabar, with deliveries expected between Monday and Tuesday.
