Petrol Price Hits New High Despite Global Oil Drop – NBS Reports

Despite a global drop in oil prices, the price of petrol in Nigeria has reached a new high, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The NBS revealed that while there was a marginal decline in petrol prices compared to June 2025, the average price per litre still increased.

Jigawa State had the highest average price per litre nationwide, followed by Lagos and Sokoto. On the other end of the spectrum, Zamfara residents paid the lowest average retail price per litre.

The NBS also reported that the North West had the highest average retail price per litre, while the North East had the lowest. Despite this, independent checks have shown that petrol prices are gradually dropping in major cities due to the reduction in global crude oil prices.

Currently, petrol is priced at around ₦ per litre in Lagos, with slightly higher prices in Abuja.
