Sokoto Petrol Prices Surge to N1,350 per Litre

Petrol prices in Sokoto State have risen sharply to N1,350 per litre, a significant increase from the previous price of N1,100 per litre. This sudden hike, reported on a Monday, has left residents and motorists surprised, leading to long queues at filling stations as they rush to purchase fuel.

Motorists, including commercial driver Musa Abdullahi, have expressed their frustration over the rising costs, stating that the increase exacerbates the already challenging economic conditions they face. Abdullahi noted that the transport fare cannot keep pace with the daily price hikes.

Another resident, Ibrahim Sani, highlighted that the situation affects businesses and households, as everything depends on fuel. The price increase comes amid global market uncertainties and follows the removal of fuel subsidies in 2023, which has led to the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector.

Consequently, petrol prices are now largely determined by market forces, including global crude oil prices and exchange rates, prompting frequent adjustments across the country.
