Nigerian Pension Funds Surpass N24 Trillion in Investments

As of August 2026, Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) in Nigeria had their exposure to the stock market and federal government securities exceed N24 trillion, specifically reaching N24.12 trillion. This marks an increase of approximately 18.88 percent or N3.83 trillion compared to the N20.29 trillion reported in December 2025.
According to data from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), this exposure constitutes about 75.8 percent of the current net asset value of N31.80 trillion. In the first seven months of 2026, PFAs' investment in the stock market rose from N3.96 trillion to N6.32 trillion, a 59.8 percent increase.
Investments in federal government securities also increased to N17.8 trillion, reflecting an 8.98 percent rise. The growth in pension investments is attributed to improved corporate earnings and favorable macroeconomic conditions, alongside attractive yields on government securities, which have remained appealing to institutional investors.
