BudgIt Foundation Urges Tinubu to Provide Budget Data

Vahyala Kwaga, the Country Director of BudgIt Foundation, called on President Bola Tinubu's administration to move beyond mere pronouncements and provide concrete data regarding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). During an interview on Arise Television, Kwaga stated that Nigerians deserve access to factual data from the Budget of the Federation and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

He criticized the current system, highlighting the need for transparency in the budget process, which involves Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) interfacing with the federal executive's budget through the Budget Preparation System (BPS) within the Government Integrated Financial Information Management System (GIFIMS). Kwaga pointed out that the Budget Office does not control the GIFIMS ecosystem but provides oversight.

He also referenced the Head of Service of the Federation acknowledging existing loopholes and mentioned the Secretary to the Government of the Federation's role in overseeing MDAs.
