Pharmacists Push for Tech Integration in Healthcare

At the 2026 Continuing Education Conference organized by the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) in Lagos State, pharmacists discussed the need for expanded roles beyond traditional drug dispensing. Chairman Tolulop Ajayi highlighted the importance of continuous education and technological integration to strengthen healthcare delivery.

The conference, titled "Advancing Community Pharmacy Practice through Technology," aimed to build professional capacity and improve service quality. Ajayi noted that pharmacists are evolving into broader clinical roles, including counseling and immunization services.

He called for better integration of pharmacy into primary healthcare systems and emphasized the growing importance of digital tools in modern healthcare. Chief Executive Officer Sey Agboola stressed that embracing technology is essential for progress, while Managing Director Ibukun Tola Ogunyemi pointed out the shift in consumer behavior towards evidence-based health solutions.

The conference also featured discussions on the use of digital tools, such as electronic health records and AI-powered clinical decision support systems, to enhance patient safety and care delivery.
