PSN Advocates for Investment in Pharmacy Education

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has emphasized the necessity for investment in pharmacy education to fortify Nigeria's healthcare system. This call was made during the 2026 Pharmacy Colloquium held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Yola, Adamawa State.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri expressed strong governmental support for this initiative, which was represented by Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta. The PSN President, Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, highlighted that pharmacy education should extend beyond academic pursuits and be strategically aligned with national interests.

Ibrahim noted the importance of advancing the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) program and strengthening institutions like the National Postgraduate College of Pharmacy to produce a highly skilled workforce capable of reducing Nigeria's dependence on imported medicines. The keynote address by Professor Cyril Odianos Usifoh identified a disconnect between academic qualifications and healthcare outcomes, advocating for a shift towards competency-based training and the integration of emerging technologies in pharmacy education.
