CPACPI Secures Global Support for Pharmacy Progression

On March 5, 2026, a meeting held at Newton Park Hotel Resort in Abuja focused on the Institute for Community Pharmacy Advancement (CPACPI) and its efforts to transform pharmacy career progression in Nigeria. The National Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Ambros Igwekamma Ezeh, highlighted the importance of community pharmacists, noting that nearly 60% of patients seek help from pharmacists before visiting hospitals.

The CPACPI initiative aims to create a structured professional system that supports continuous learning and evaluates healthcare quality. Dr.

Iyeseun Asieba, Chairman of the CPACPI Board, emphasized the urgent need to mobilize Nigeria's health sector amid a growing trend of professional migration, referred to as the "japa syndrome." The initiative includes a career progression roadmap for community pharmacists, which outlines four major professional bands and aims to align community pharmacy practices with global standards. The meeting underscored the critical role of community pharmacists in expanding access to healthcare and improving public health.
