Egba People Celebrate 39th Lisabi Festival Finale

The Egba people gathered at the palace ground in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday for the grand finale of the 39th Lisabi Festival, which commenced on March 23. This annual festival honors Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, a warrior who led the Egba people's revolt against the Oyo Empire in the 18th century, symbolizing their quest for independence.

The event featured traditional homage, rites, a warrior theme reenactment, drum performances, colorful dances, and a parade. The festival was hosted by the Alake of Egbaland and brought together various Egba subgroups, including Akoko-oro, Ona, Gbagura, and Owu, showcasing unity and shared identity.

The grand finale included the Egbaliganza, a cultural fashion initiative led by Chief Lai Labod, which highlighted Egba attire and enterprises. The Lisabi Festival Committee clarified that the Egbaliganza occupied a two-hour slot within the week-long program and did not redefine the festival's historical focus.

Security presence was heightened around the venue throughout the week.
