UK Defence Deputy Chief Visits Maiduguri for Military Ties

On Tuesday, Lt Gen Sir Charlie Collins, the UK Defence Deputy Chief of Staff, arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, for a high-level assessment of bilateral defence cooperation between the UK and the Nigerian Army. This visit underscores the UK's ongoing support for Nigeria's initiatives aimed at enhancing security and promoting stability in West Africa, particularly in light of persistent threats from terrorism and insurgency.

During the visit, Collins was welcomed by Nigerian military colleagues and observed first-hand the UK-Nigeria defence cooperation efforts. The visit included a formal military guard of honour ceremony, where a plaque was exchanged between UK and Nigerian officers.

This engagement is part of Nigeria's efforts to enhance its transnational cooperation in the fight against banditry and terrorism, especially in the northern region.
