Army Chief Waidi Shaibu Expands Security Units in Plateau

The Plateau State government and its citizens commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for creating additional Nigerian Army formations and units in vulnerable areas of the state. During a courtesy visit to the COAS in Jos, Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo expressed gratitude for the establishment of the 24 Armour Brigade in Langtang and its units in Mangu, Wase, and Shendam.

She noted that these strategic locations would enhance security coverage and improve troop responsiveness to threats. Piyo also requested more personnel and equipment to fully operationalize the new units and assured the COAS of the state government's support for troop accommodation and functionality.

In response, the COAS announced plans to deploy additional troops, including another battalion, and revealed that President Bola Tinubu approved the recruitment of 20,000 personnel to bolster the Army's operational capacity. Shaibu emphasized the need for collective efforts from all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace.
