Vigilantes Killed in Plateau State Despite Curfew Measures

On the evening of September 22, three vigilantes were killed in an ambush in Plateau State at approximately 7:49 p.m., despite a newly imposed dusk-to-dawn curfew aimed at restoring law and order in Mangu, Bokkos, and Barikin Ladi LGAs. The victims, identified as Samson Dachet (45), Gambo Fwangyil (50), and Zughumnan Bamaiyi (35), were part of a community watch group.

Tubwot Joël Sunday, the Director of Public Affairs for the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, expressed deep concern over the attack occurring during the curfew, questioning its effectiveness if armed criminals could still operate. Bulus Dabit, the National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, condemned the incident, stating that the curfew does not deter lawless individuals who exploit the restrictions to target vulnerable communities.

He emphasized that while law-abiding citizens adhere to the curfew, armed groups continue their attacks, undermining the intended safety measures. Captain Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, declined to comment on the incident.
