Plateau Attack: JNI Confirms Four Killed, Ten Missing

The Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI) confirmed that four of its members were killed and ten are missing following an attack in Angwan Rukuba, Plateau State, on Sunday at approximately 7:30 PM. The attackers, reportedly dressed in military camouflage and riding motorcycles, opened fire on residents, resulting in widespread panic.

The initial attack left 14 people dead, with the death toll later rising to 27 as more victims were reported. The JNI, through a statement signed by its Secretary Dr. Salim Musa Umar, indicated that the missing individuals have not been in contact with their families since the incident.

In response to the violence, the Plateau State government relaxed a previously imposed 48-hour curfew in the Jo North local government area. President Bola Tinubu condemned the attacks, describing them as barbaric, and ordered security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

The Senate has also called for an investigation and humanitarian assistance for the displaced victims.
