Protests Erupt in Plateau State as Death Toll Reaches 33

Protests erupted in Plateau State following a violent attack on Angwan Rukuba that resulted in a death toll of 33, as victims succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Community members, including women and youth, blocked church entrances demanding the release of three local youths arrested by military authorities in connection with the attack.

The protests temporarily halted mass burial proceedings, highlighting frustrations over perceived delays in justice. Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Chief of Staff Jeremiah Satmark addressed the situation, assuring efforts to identify and bring the actual perpetrators to justice.

The Christian Association of Nigeria's Plateau State chapter, represented by Rev. Gomwalk Dunkan, emphasized the need for sustained peace and justice. The attack, which occurred on a Sunday night, was described as heinous and aimed at destabilizing the state.

The government has vowed to enhance security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras, to combat ongoing violence.
