Plateau State Reports 11 Lassa Fever Cases and 4 Deaths in Recent Outbreak

Plateau State in Nigeria has recorded 11 cases of Lassa fever, leading to four deaths as of December 2025. The outbreak was officially confirmed by Dr.

Nicholas Baamlong of the Plateau State Ministry of Health. The cases were reported across seven local government areas, with the first alert issued on December 20, 2025.

Dr. Baamlong disclosed that the outbreak had affected major hospitals in the state, including Jos University Teaching Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital.

Among the victims was Dr. Salom Oboyi, a senior resident doctor at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, who succumbed to the disease.

Efforts are ongoing to trace contacts, provide treatment, and prevent further transmission of the disease.
