Plateau State Launches Roadmap to Resolve Farmers-Herders Conflict

On Tuesday, stakeholders in Plateau State unveiled a significant roadmap aimed at resolving the persistent farmers-herders crises that have led to the deaths of approximately 11,000 to 12,000 people and 420 community attacks over the past two decades. The launch took place at the corporate headquarters of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang's administration attributing the violence to a mix of factors, including land competition and ethnic mistrust.

Dr. Juli Sanda, the agency's Director General, and Nantip Joseph emphasized the importance of addressing recurring tensions that adversely affect communities.

The guidelines developed aim to equip community actors with tools to prevent and resolve conflicts related to natural resources, particularly land. Meanwhile, on the same night, gunmen attacked Rim Village in the Riyom Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
