Violence Escalates in Plateau State, Multiple Killings Reported

In Plateau State, Nigeria, a surge in violence has resulted in numerous killings, including four traders in Mangu and ten farmers in Barkin Ladi. The unrest has prompted community protests demanding the apprehension and punishment of the perpetrators.

Samson Godiya, a community member, expressed frustration over the continuous attacks attributed to Fulani herdsmen. The violence has been ongoing since 2001, with accusations of unprovoked attacks leading to hundreds of deaths and widespread displacement.

Recent incidents include the killing of farmers and herders, with reports of cattle rustling and attacks on agricultural communities. In response, the government has deployed 1,450 personnel to enhance security and has emphasized the importance of restoring law and order.

Brigadier General Shipi Gakji, the special adviser to the governor on security matters, stated that efforts are being made to foster mutual respect among residents and prevent further escalation of violence.
