Plateau Farmers and Herders Sign Peace Deal Amid Rising Tensions

Plateau farmers and herders from six rural communities in Bokko and Riyom local government areas recently signed a peace agreement comprising 25 points to restore peace and calm in the region. The signatories, including men and women from the communities of Sha, Bum, Sopp, Bokko, and Riyom, have been affected by various conflicts.

The peace deal follows a series of engagements with institutions to facilitate an integrated transition towards building social cohesion in conflict-affected rural communities. Lazaro David, a senior district head in Bokko LGA, emphasized the significance of the peace process in addressing the challenges faced by the communities.

Chiroma Haruna Idri highlighted the importance of the agreement in promoting harmony at the local level and expressed confidence that it would help resolve common concerns peacefully. The signatories believe that the agreement, which involves the active participation of churches and mosques, will contribute to sustaining peace in the region.
