Plateau State Launches Five-Year Climate Change Plan

On Thursday, Plateau State unveiled a five-year climate change action plan, set to commence in 2026, during an event supported by the Christian Blind Mission and the European Union. Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by Chief of Staff Jeremiah Satmak, described the document as a bold roadmap to safeguard livelihoods and restore degraded landscapes.

The policy focuses on agricultural adaptation, water management, disaster risk reduction, and creating pathways for green jobs and renewable energy investments. Satmak emphasized the need for civil society to hold the government accountable for implementing the plan.

The action plan, developed with extensive consultations across 17 local government areas, aims to address the worsening environmental realities, including heat waves, droughts, and biodiversity loss. The plan also includes establishing legal frameworks and standards to enhance climate resilience and safeguard natural resources.

Key stakeholders, including Hon. Sundai Mark and Hon. Olivia Dazyem, pledged legislative support for the policy, highlighting the importance of community engagement and gender balance in its implementation.
