Plateau State Residents Protest After Vigilantes Killed

On September 26, women and youths from Kassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, blocked the Jos-Barkin Ladi-Mangu highway for several hours following the killing of three vigilantes by gunmen during a night patrol. The attack occurred around 1 am, resulting in the deaths of the vigilantes, including a community youth leader.

Local resident John Dung stated that the victims were actively protecting the community from violence. Protester Esther Pam expressed frustration over ongoing attacks despite the presence of security forces.

Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, condemned the killings and called for the arrest of the attackers and enhanced security measures. In response to the unrest, security personnel were deployed to restore order.

The Plateau State government condemned the attack, with Commissioner for Information Joyce Ramnap urging residents to avoid blocking the highway and to cooperate with security agencies.
