Police Assure Safety During Explosives Destruction in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has issued a statement to alleviate public concerns regarding the planned destruction of expired explosives in Kporghor Community, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State. The operation, conducted by Halliburton Energy Services Nigeria Limited, is set to take place from July 8 to July 10, 2026.

ASP Bless Agab, a spokesperson for the police command, emphasized that relevant experts have confirmed the materials are expired and that necessary precautionary measures will be in place to ensure public safety during the exercise. Residents are advised not to panic upon hearing loud explosions, as the police have assured that all safety protocols will be adhered to.

The statement also highlighted the risks associated with expired explosives, which can become highly volatile and unpredictable over time, necessitating controlled disposal to prevent accidents.
