Nigerian Police Ban Egungun Festival in Lagos Over Safety Concerns

The Nigerian Police Force has banned the Egungun Festival in a Lagos community, citing public safety risks and unauthorized organization by a group identified as Oj Parapo Oregun Command. Twelve suspects were arrested for distributing event notices, leading to fear among residents.

The Police Command emphasized the need to protect citizens' rights and maintain public order. This action follows a similar situation in Mafoluku, Oshodi, where unrest was caused by cultural activities.

Last year, traditionalists in Ikorodu issued cautions ahead of a festival to ensure peace and security.
