Ekiti Police Arrest Two in Land Dispute Killing Case

On September 14, 2026, at approximately 8:45 pm, a man was allegedly abducted from his residence in Ekiti State by five men in a Toyota bus, led by Rotimi Joseph Olabiowonu, a former chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Ekiti State. The victim was assaulted and taken to an unknown location, where he was subsequently pushed out of the moving vehicle, resulting in severe head injuries.

The suspects then transported him to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), where he was pronounced dead by the medical doctor on duty. Following the incident, police spokesperson SP Sunday Abutu announced that investigations were underway, and the two suspects, Olabiowonu and Adedoyin Opeyemi, are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Falade Michael, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and urged residents to resolve land disputes peacefully.
