Police Arrest 24 Suspects in Imo State Forest Raids

The Imo State Police Command conducted a coordinated operation across forest areas in Eziobodo, Ihiagwa, and Neked Okolochi within the Owerri West Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of 24 suspects. The operation, led by Area Commander Owerri Urban ACP Michael Abattam, involved 250 police officers and aimed to address rising cases of kidnapping and violent crime in the region.

Police spokesperson DSP Henri Okoy confirmed the arrests, identifying suspects including Jonah Abotu (21), Abel John (22), Ibrahim Uband (40), Peter Samuel (28), Kabiru Yahaya (20), and Yahaya Adamu (22). Items recovered during the operation included cannabis sativa and six unregistered motorcycles.

The suspects were transferred to the Command's Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation and potential prosecution. This operation is part of proactive security measures initiated by Police Commissioner Audu Bosso to restore public confidence and tackle criminal activities in the area, following community protests against kidnappings and attacks allegedly carried out by armed herders.
