Nigerian Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Over N48.5m Romance Fraud in Lagos

The Airport Police Command in Lagos arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Precious Onudhona, for a romance scam amounting to N48.5 million. Onudhona, a native of Delta State, was apprehended on February 2, 2026, while attempting to board a flight to Asaba, Delta State.

The suspect, identified through intelligence reports, was involved in a large-scale fraud operation since 2023, specializing in romance-related scams targeting victims on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The suspect, posing as a white American medic named Kevin, gained victims' trust and solicited funds under false pretenses, using fake bank domains and fictitious accounts.

The Airport Police Command's Anti-Fraud Unit led the arrest, with ASP Mohammed Adeola overseeing the operation. The Commissioner of Police, Ogunbode Olufunke, ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served.

Additionally, another suspect, Essien Akpama, was arrested earlier for defrauding foreign victims of N1.25 billion.
