Police Arrest 70-Year-Old for Attempted Murder in A'Ibom

On March 20, 2026, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a 70-year-old man named Okon Akpan along with three others—John Samson (45), Emmanuel Asuquo (50), and Idorenyin Umoh (22)—in connection with an attempted murder linked to cult-related activities in Uruk Anam Local Government Area. The arrests were made in Ikot Asukpong Village following credible intelligence as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the state.

During the operation, police recovered a local fabric pistol and two long guns. The police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, stated that investigations are ongoing to track other members of the criminal gang, assuring the public of proactive measures to maintain peace in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Moham Azar, reiterated the command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urged public support in the fight against crime.
