Father Arrested for Abusing 13-Year-Old Son in Aba

Uzoma Uwaeme has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for the severe abuse of his 13-year-old son, which included stripping him naked, tying him up, and flogging him under the sun in Aba, Abia State. The police disclosed this information in a statement released on Wednesday, indicating that the suspect is the biological father of the victim, whose mother allegedly left the marriage.

The arrest was prompted by a viral video on social media depicting the teenager bound with ropes and visibly injured. Following the video's circulation, Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, directed the Abayi Divisional Police Headquarters to locate and apprehend Uwaeme at his residence on Nwokocha Street.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed that the teenager has been rescued, received medical treatment, and is currently in stable condition under police protective custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, with CP Afolabi condemning the act as inhumane and a violation of child rights.
