Ministry of Women Affairs Condemns Child Abuse Cases

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development expressed grave concern over the alleged brutal abuse of 12-year-old Master Ugonna Uzoma in Aba, Abia State, reportedly inflicted by his father, resulting in serious injuries. The Ministry condemned all forms of violence and abuse against children, asserting that parental authority should never violate a child's dignity or rights.

It commended the Nigeria Police Force and the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for their prompt intervention, including the arrest of the alleged perpetrator and placing the child under protective care. The Ministry also addressed technology-facilitated abuse, highlighting a case in Onitsha, Anambra State, involving a mother abusing her daughters.

It urged the public to refrain from sharing abusive material online, as it exacerbates the harm to victims. The Ministry reiterated the importance of the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003 and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, in protecting children and called for coordinated interventions in cases of child abuse.

This reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to safeguarding the dignity and safety of women and children.
