Five Arrested for Alleged Murder of Suspected Rapist

On February 22, 2026, around 3:30 PM, the Bayelsa State Police Command arrested five suspects linked to the murder of 38-year-old Samuel Ofiri, who was accused of raping a lady. The police responded to a distress call and discovered Ofiri's lifeless body dumped by the roadside along Kakatar Road in Otuok, Ogbia Local Government Area.

The body was subsequently taken to the Feder Medical Centre Otuok for examination. The arrested suspects include Stanlei Inemugha (21), Kingslei Taribo (25), and Prey Timbiri (40), all from Otakem community, and two others.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was tortured before his death. The Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, warned against mob justice and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police.
