Man Arrested for Murder of Six-Year-Old in Oyo State

On April 11, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command arrested 23-year-old Sodiq Akored in Adigun Village, Olorunda Ogunsola area of Ona Ara Local Government Area, after he was found in possession of the severed head of a six-year-old girl, identified as Mutiyatu. Police spokesperson Ayanlad Olayinka reported that the command received information about the unlawful killing, prompting immediate action from Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Olugbenga, who directed operations to secure the scene and arrest the suspect.

Despite resistance from an angry mob, police successfully rescued Akored and secured the evidence. Preliminary investigations revealed that Akored confessed to the crime.

Following the mob attack, he was conveyed to a medical facility for treatment of injuries sustained. The police warned against jungle justice, urging the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
