Police Arrest Two for Producing Fake Alcohol in Anambra

On June 15, 2026, the Anambra State Police Command arrested two suspects, Ikechukwu Okek, aged 42, and Chukwuemeka Okek, aged 38, for their involvement in the production and distribution of adulterated alcoholic beverages. The arrests were made during an operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad following credible intelligence received by the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were members of a syndicate specializing in the adulteration of various alcoholic beverages. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their crimes, which led to the discovery of a mini-factory used for the production of counterfeit drinks.

The police recovered several adulterated products, including Seaman's Schnapps, McDowell's Eagle Schnapps, Elliot Hot Drink, Baileys Fresh Cream, and dangerous chemicals allegedly used in the production process. The suspects are currently in police custody, and the recovered exhibits are secured for forensic examination.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioy Orutugu, commended the operation's success and warned individuals involved in counterfeit product distribution to desist or face legal consequences.
