Two Arrested for Producing Fake Alcohol in Anambra

On June 15, 2026, the Anambra State Police Command arrested two suspects, Ikechukwu Okek, 42, and Okek Chukwuemeka, 38, for their involvement in the production and distribution of adulterated alcoholic beverages. The arrests occurred in the early hours of the day following credible intelligence received by the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were members of a syndicate specializing in the adulteration and counterfeiting of various alcoholic beverages. During the operation, the police recovered several counterfeit products, including Seaman’s Schnapps, McDowell’s Eagle Schnapps, Elliot Hot Drink, Baileys Fresh Cream, and dangerous chemicals allegedly used in the production process.

Additionally, numerous empty bottles and packaging materials intended for the continued manufacture of counterfeit drinks were seized. Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, confirmed that the suspects are currently in police custody, and the recovered exhibits are secured for forensic examination.

The Commissioner of Police for Anambra, Ikioy Orutugu, commended the operation's success and warned individuals involved in the distribution of counterfeit products to desist or face legal consequences.
