Oyo Police Arrest Two for Spreading False Bandit Claims

The Oyo State Police Command arrested two suspects for allegedly circulating false information regarding a bandit attack in Lamini Community, Ido Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of six individuals. The command stated that the false claims were disseminated through a viral voice note on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, causing panic among residents.

The police confirmed that no such attack occurred, describing the reports as unfounded. The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed a full investigation following the verification of the claims.

The suspects, identified as Joel Muyiwa and Mulikat Bashiru, were arrested based on intelligence-driven investigations and forensic analysis of the voice note. The police emphasized that spreading misinformation poses a serious threat to public order and undermines trust in security efforts, urging residents to verify information from credible sources.

Individuals found guilty of spreading false information will face prosecution.
