Police Arrests Mamuda Hassan for Counterfeit Currency Trade

The Nasarawa State Police Command arrested a 65-year-old suspect, Mamuda Hassan, for involvement in the circulation of counterfeit currency. According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the arrest was made based on credible intelligence and was executed by the state Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Hassan was apprehended at a cattle market in Lafia while actively trading in counterfeit notes, specifically in denominations of one thousand naira. During police interrogation, Hassan confessed to supplying counterfeit notes to accomplices residing in Mararaba Akunza.

Efforts are currently underway to apprehend these accomplices. Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro has called on the public, particularly traders, small business owners, fuel station operators, and motor park workers, to remain vigilant and cautious regarding currency notes used in daily transactions.

He advised them to look for signs of counterfeit currency and to promptly report any individuals found in possession of or attempting to circulate fake notes to the nearest police station.
