Rivers Police Ban Tinted Buses, Unregistered Vehicles

The Rivers State Police Command has issued a ban on tinted commercial buses and unregistered vehicles, effective immediately, as part of efforts to curb rising crime, including robbery and kidnapping in the state. The command, led by Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed that any commercial tricycle, commonly known as "keke," that is tinted in a manner that conceals passenger identity will be impounded, and operators will face arrest and prosecution.

The police also reiterated that driving without a vehicle registration number is strictly prohibited, with offenders subject to immediate arrest. This measure follows a warning from Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu against concealing vehicle identification.

The police command has advised the public to remain vigilant, avoid poorly lit areas, and report suspicious activities. The restrictions on tricycle operations are in effect from 10:00 PM, and the command has urged residents to cooperate with security agencies to enhance public safety.
