Armed Herders Attack Benue Communities, Six Dead

On Friday, armed herders attacked communities in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, leading to the recovery of six lifeless bodies and multiple injuries among residents. The attack occurred while farmers were reportedly working on their cashew farms.

DSP Udem Edet, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday. A joint security team, including the Nigeria Police Force and local youth, has been mobilized to conduct search and rescue operations aimed at locating victims and apprehending the perpetrators.

The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, assured the public of reinforced security measures across the affected communities to prevent further attacks. Reports indicate that 15 people are feared dead, with several others injured or missing.

Local resident Abu Abel described the attack as unprovoked and called for government assistance, highlighting the ongoing insecurity in the area. The chairman of Apa Local Government, Adam Ochega, confirmed the incident but stated he could not provide further details at the moment.
