Oyo Police Deny False Claims of Abducted Victims' Release

On Thursday, the Oyo State Police Command issued a statement refuting viral messages on social media that claimed the release of abducted school children and teachers from Yawota Community in Oriir Local Government Area. The police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, described these claims as false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated.

The incident involved the abduction of 40 school children and teachers during a coordinated attack on Baptist Nursery Primary School and Yawota Community High School on Friday, May 15, 2026. The police emphasized that there have been no developments regarding the release of the victims and advised the public to disregard the misleading reports.

They reassured the community that rescue operations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to ensure the safe return of the victims. The police also cautioned against spreading unverified information that could cause panic and undermine public safety.
