Oyo Government Denies Ransom Payment for Abducted Victims

The Oyo State Government has dismissed reports alleging that a ransom was paid for the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. Governor Dotun Oyelade stated that these claims are completely untrue and accused irresponsible bloggers of spreading misinformation that could create unnecessary panic among residents.

He assured the public that the state and federal governments are working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the abducted individuals without any ransom being paid, either directly or indirectly. Oyelade emphasized that security agencies remain actively engaged in rescue operations and that every effort is being made to ensure the victims regain their freedom safely.

He urged the public to ignore unverifiable reports circulating on social media and to rely on official government channels for information. The incident, which occurred on May 15, involved armed bandits attacking three schools and resulted in the abduction of pupils and teachers, raising widespread concern in Oyo State.
