Nigerian Police Deny Seeking Court Order to Halt #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest

The Nigerian Police Force has refuted claims of seeking a court injunction to halt the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest set for October 20, 2025. The Police Public Relations Officer emphasized the right to peaceful protest and clarified that they did not approach the court to stop the demonstration.

Last week, reports emerged that the Federal High Court in Abuja rejected the police's request to restrain the protest, allowing it to proceed. Activist Omoyele Sowore celebrated the court's decision as a victory for civil liberties.

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun dispatched police lawyers to sue in a bid to stop the march, which was ultimately unsuccessful.
