Kwara Police Deny Unlawful Detention of Minor in Arandun

The Kwara State Police Command issued a statement on Monday, clarifying allegations of the unlawful detention of a minor, Esther Aransiola, in Arandun, Irepodun Local Government Area. The claims, which circulated on social media and sparked public outrage, were described as misleading by the police.

The incident relates to a housebreaking theft reported on April 30, 2026, where the prime suspect, Timothy Aransiola, a 19-year-old male, was on the police watchlist for absconding. Following intelligence reports, it was revealed that he was being harbored by his 16-year-old sister, Esther.

The police stated that she was taken into custody on May 1, 2026, for allegedly aiding and abetting her brother's escape from law enforcement. The police emphasized that Esther was not unlawfully detained, and her release was facilitated under the condition of a guardian's bond.

They urged the public to disregard the misleading video and refrain from spreading unverified information that could incite tension.
