Police Dismiss ASP Nuhu Usman Over Extrajudicial Killing

The Nigerian Police Force has officially dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman and others involved in the extrajudicial killing of unarmed civilian Mene Ogidi, which occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State. This decision follows the conclusions of a disciplinary committee that found Usman guilty of gross violations of police conduct and procedures.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu condemned the incident, describing it as a tragic and unacceptable breach of duty that undermines the oath of office. He emphasized that no level of suspicion against a citizen justifies extrajudicial killings, reiterating that the primary duty of the police is to protect life and property.

The disciplinary committee has recommended that the case be forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final ratification, and those involved will face judicial prosecution for unlawful homicide. The Inspector General expressed condolences to Ogidi's family and called for calm in the community, assuring that justice would be pursued.
