ASP Usman Dismissed Over Mene Ogidi's Killing in Delta

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman has been dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force due to his involvement in the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, which occurred on April 26. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Disu disclosed this information during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

He described the incident as a result of "unprofessional conduct" and emphasized that there is no place for such behavior within the police force. Following the dismissal, ASP Usman and other implicated officers will face disciplinary proceedings and potential prosecution for unlawful homicide.

The police leadership has recommended immediate dismissal and has forwarded the case to the relevant judicial authorities for further action. IGP Disu extended condolences to Ogidi's family and urged the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, referencing a viral video that showed Ogidi in a vulnerable position before the incident.
