IGP Orders Dismissal of Officers Over Delta Shooting

On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Rilwan Olutunji Disu, announced the dismissal and prosecution of officers involved in a deadly shooting incident in Delta State, which led to the death of a civilian identified as Mene Ogidi. During a press briefing in Abuja, the IGP condemned the actions of the officers, describing the shooting as criminal and unprofessional, stating it does not reflect the values and operational standards of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The incident was linked to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman, who was found to have violated established procedures regarding the use of firearms. The IGP emphasized that the actions of the officers were gross violations of operational rules and that there is zero tolerance for lawlessness within the ranks of the police.

Following the investigation, recommendations were made for the officers involved to be dismissed and face criminal prosecution for unlawful homicide. The IGP extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged citizens to remain calm.
