Lagos Police Dismiss Viral Arms Arrest Video as Old

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that purportedly shows the arrest of Fulani men allegedly found with arms and ammunition in Ikorodu. The police clarified that the footage is an old clip from three years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu, part of Lagos State.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the police public relations officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the command warned that recirculating such outdated footage could cause unnecessary panic among residents. They urged the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverifiable information that could undermine public confidence and peace.

The police also cautioned social media users and content creators against disseminating false and alarmist reports, stating that individuals found deliberately spreading misinformation could face legal consequences. Additionally, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, directed the sustained deployment of police personnel to identify black spots and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
