Police and EFCC Rescue 14 Abducted Victims from Pirates

On April 21, 2023, 14 individuals were abducted by pirates while traveling on a passenger ferry between Calabar in Cross River State and Oron in Akwa Ibom State. In a joint operation, the Nigerian Police Force collaborated with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to secure the victims' release.

The operation was driven by credible intelligence and involved intensified surveillance and targeted actions across identified flashpoints in the maritime corridor. The victims were successfully rescued without harm and are currently undergoing medical evaluation and necessary debriefing before being reunited with their families.

DCP Anthony Placid announced the successful operation in a statement issued on Tuesday, while IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu commended the joint security team for their effective inter-agency collaboration and assured ongoing efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the abduction.
