Arrests Made in Case of ARISE TV Anchor's Death

The trial concerning the death of ARISE TV anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu is ongoing, with 11 defendants facing charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder related to a robbery incident that occurred on September 29, 2025, at Uniqu Apartment in Abuja. The police, represented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maxwel Ej, provided testimony in court, detailing the arrest of Shamsu Hassan, who fled Zaria on September 30, 2025.

Upon his arrest, Hassan admitted to his involvement and agreed to cooperate with authorities, revealing the whereabouts of other gang members, including Sani Surajo, who was receiving treatment at an unnamed hospital. The trial commenced on February 10, 2026, after delays due to the absence of defendants.

Witnesses, including former residents of Uniqu Apartment, have testified about the masked assailants involved in the robbery that led to the death of security guard Barnaba Danlami. The proceedings are set to continue with further testimonies.
