Police Arrest Driver and Accomplice in Smuggling Attempt

On June 12, 2026, at approximately 11 PM, Ogun State Police Command, led by CSP Adejuwon Ariyo, intercepted a vehicle smuggling operation in the Babalo area of Idiroko. The operation was based on credible intelligence regarding the movement of a stolen 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus, which had been reported stolen in Lagos.

The police acted swiftly to prevent the vehicle from crossing the border into Benin Republic, successfully demobilizing it by shooting its tires. The driver, Seun Lawal, aged 46, and his accomplice, 38-year-old Ademola Oriyomi, were arrested at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Lawal and Oriyomi conspired to sell the stolen vehicle in Benin Republic. Both suspects admitted to their intentions to facilitate the illegal transaction.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the tactical response of the police in this operation, emphasizing the commitment to strengthening border security and combating vehicle theft syndicates.
